Irish Property price register launched yesterday

The National Irish Property Price Register was finally launched yesterday.  The register provides actually sale prices of residential properties in Ireland since 1st January 2010.

Hopefully we will now be able to get accurate information and more accurate reports on the property market. This should avoid conflicting reports such as the two conflicting reports last week, both based on asking prices. Myhome.ie report suggests Dublin prices rose 1.6% while the report from Daft.ie states .5% drop in prices in Dublin.

The new Property Price Register includes information on residential properties purchased in Irelandsince the 1st January 2010, as declared to the Revenue Commissioners for stamp duty purposes. The details provided for each property includes the Date of Sale, Price and Address of the property.

The information is available on line, free of charge allowing you to search within 2010, 2011 or 2012. You can search for a particular month or county or all months and all counties.  Searching my address for example you can key in “Tallaght” and all the properties for that month or year with Tallaght in the address will be provided.

For new sales the prices shown exclude VAT so add 13.5% to get the actual sale price. The register will be of great help in obtaining accurate sale prices and will make enjoyable reading for what used to be a national pastime.

Just 17,621 houses were sold across the State last year and one house in sold for only €8,000.  Happy reading.
