More Irish rental properties needed as more people renting

The article in The Irish Times is very insightful about what rental properties are needed in the future. More people renting now but Landlords are being squeezed out of the market with various new taxes and lack of allowances for upgrading properties.

All this leads to a shortage of rental properties in the main city locations. Already we are seeing rental prices increases in the main urban centres with Reuters outlining the first monthly rise in Irish house prices in 5 years, and with land prices increases by 25% in the last 6 months, indications are that we may start to regularly see increases.

These are all signs of stabilisation in the market which should reduce the pressure on our banks and help to get the availability of mortgages flowing again.
